- The EPAL Euro pallet measures 1,200 x 800 mm with a height of 144 mm and has a safe working load of 1,500 kg.
- In the Palletforce pallet network a quarter pallet is 1.2m x 1.2m x 1m high up to 250kg, a half pallet is 2m high up to 500kg and a full pallet is 2.44m high up to 1,250kg.
- A Kögel SWAP swap body built to the EN 284 C745 standard has a clear loading length of 7,330 mm and can be fitted with optional telescopic support legs for parking heights of 1,020, 1,120, 1,220 or 1,320 mm.
- Laden EPAL Euro pallets can be stacked on a solid, even surface as long as the bottom pallet carries a load of no more than 5,500 kg.
- A loading metre is a standard unit for road freight equal to 1 metre of a truck's loading length; on a trailer about 2.4 m wide, one loading metre is roughly 2.4 square metres of floor space.
Typical cargo
In a full truck load (FTL) the shipper books the whole vehicle, so only its goods are on board and they travel directly to the consignee without reloading.
In a less-than-truck-load (LTL) or part-load shipment only part of the vehicle's capacity is used, and carriers usually combine partial loads from different customers in one truck.
In a pallet network, pallets sorted at the hub are reloaded onto outbound trunk vehicles, and the receiving member depot makes the final-mile delivery to the consignee.
Pallet networks typically use a hub-and-spoke model: each member collects palletised freight in its assigned postcode area and trunks it overnight to a central hub for sorting by destination depot.
