Tolls, bans and documents
Tolls
Belgium charges trucks over 3.5 t a distance-based kilometre charge on motorways and many regional roads. Germany charges a distance-based truck toll (LKW-Maut) on motorways and federal roads for vehicles over 3.5 t, with a CO₂ component.
Driving bans
Germany bans trucks over 7.5 t on Sundays and public holidays from 00:00 to 22:00, and on many motorways on Saturdays in July and August from 07:00 to 20:00.
Documents
CMR consignment note, EU Community licence and ADR documents for dangerous goods. Cabotage (domestic loads by a foreign EU carrier) is limited to three operations within seven days after an international delivery, followed by a four-day cooling-off period in that country.
Tips for carriers
- ADR chemical loads need a trained driver and equipped vehicle — filter accordingly.
- Search the Ruhr for return freight to Antwerp or Rotterdam.
