Truck freight from Italy to Germany

Italy → Germany freight mostly crosses the Alps over the Brenner Pass through Austria (A22 → A13/A12 → A93). Tyrol’s night driving ban, weekend restrictions and block dispatch at Kufstein make timing the crossing as important as the distance.

Tolls, bans and documents

Tyrol restrictions

Tyrol bans most trucks on the Brenner route at night (22:00–05:00), applies Saturday and holiday restrictions, and uses block dispatch (Blockabfertigung) at Kufstein on busy days, which holds trucks in queues.

Tolls

Italian motorways and the Austrian motorways (GO-Box for vehicles over 3.5 t) are tolled. Germany charges a distance-based truck toll (LKW-Maut) on motorways and federal roads for vehicles over 3.5 t, with a CO₂ component.

Driving bans

Italy bans trucks over 7.5 t on Sundays and public holidays, with extra summer days. Germany bans trucks over 7.5 t on Sundays and public holidays from 00:00 to 22:00, and on many motorways on Saturdays in July and August from 07:00 to 20:00.

Tips for carriers

  • Check Tyrol’s block-dispatch calendar before planning a Monday-morning crossing.
  • Search Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg for return loads to northern Italy.

Questions

Can trucks cross the Brenner at night?
